Riding for Peace: A Journey Through Astoria, Ravenswood, and Queensbridge

In the heart of Queens, amidst the bustling streets and vibrant neighborhoods of Astoria, Ravenswood, and Queensbridge, a powerful message echoed through the air: peace is a journey we ride together. Led by Council Member Julie Won, in collaboration with the RISE Project and CCD, residents embarked on a bicycle ride for peace, weaving through the streets to advocate for safety, unity, and a brighter future.

Riders gathered at Astoria Park, a mix of electric bikes and regular bikes were provided by City Bike for the Ride for Peace. Council Member Julie Won rode together with the group to show the importance of unity in the quest for peace. From Astoria to Queensbridge, the message rang clear: together, we can make a difference.

Recognition was given to the dedicated teams behind the scenes. The RISE Project and CCD tireless working in the pursuit to end gun violence. Thank you to City Bike for providing the means to traverse the borough with ease. Shyism Bryant of CCD echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the global reach of CCDs mission and the power of collective action.

Reflecting on the experience, participants shared their insights and motivations. For some, like Natalie, the ride was a continuation of a broader effort to activate communities and promote safety. For others, it was a personal commitment to reclaiming public spaces and ensuring that every individual could walk the streets without fear. From the rise in gun violence to the desire for safer communities, each voice added depth to the collective call for change. For many, the ride was not just a physical journey but a symbolic one—a testament to the resilience and determination of the human spirit.

Through initiatives like the bicycle ride for peace, community members pave the way for a brighter, safer tomorrow—one pedal stroke at a time. As Natalie aptly put it, "safety is important," and together, we can create a future where every individual belongs in a healthier, safer community.
